Some End of Summer Updates
Ok, I know I’ve been slow getting new reviews up. I attribute that to two issues. First, there has been a dearth of new releases that I think are worthwhile writing about. Second, and most obvious, it’s been summer. With the waning of the pandemic, festivals of all sorts have been fired up and running again. In one week alone I saw The Punch Brothers, The Avett Brothers, Rhianna Giddens, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and EmmyLou Harris, along with The Beach Boys and Temptations. The latter two were not exactly highlights of my summer but interesting all the same. These were in addition to the Ohana Luau by the Lake Tiki festival and Great Blue Heron music festival. One of the headliners for the latter was the Reverend Payton and his Big Damn Band. If you ever get a chance to see him, do so. You will be amazed.
That said, I am working on a couple of album reviews right now. Young The Giant’s Act I and II is pretty awesome stuff so far and Pomme’s latest album, Consolation, is pure Pomme and just great stuff. On the downside has been the newest Sylvan Esso album, No Rules Sandy. It’s a bit on the dull side. I was hoping for more and just, well, less. I probably won’t cover that since I’d only shred it and why bother with that.
